David Chin is currently Managing Director and Head of Corporate Client Solutions for UBS Asia Pacific. During the academic year 2015-16, he was a Visiting Fellow at Selwyn College, Cambridge University.
He was Head of the Investment Banking Division (Asia) for UBS, based in Hong Kong, between 2009 and 2015. Under his leadership, UBS was consistently ranked top in Asian investment banking league tables. In 2013, IFR Asia, FinanceAsia and The Asset all named UBS as Best Investment Bank in Asia.
Prior to 2009, David held various senior positions in UBS Asia, including Head of the Financial Institutions Group and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. In 2008, UBS was awarded Best FIG House in Asia by both FinanceAsia and The Asset.
David played an active role in business development for UBS, particularly in Hong Kong and China, including the development of offshore Renminbi equities and bond products, beginning in 2011; the formation of UBS Securities in China in 2007; and UBS's US$500m investment in Bank of China in 2005.
David has led a wide range of capital market and M&A transactions for major clients in Asia, such as Bank of China, China Merchants Bank, China Pacific Insurance, Haitong Securities, Cinda Asset Management, China Resources, HKEx, CP Group and RT Mart.
He was a member of the Asia Pacific Executive Committee of UBS, and Alternate Chief Executive for UBS Hong Kong. He retired from UBS in June 2015 after 21 years of service.
David joined SG Warburg, a predecessor firm of UBS, in London in 1994, and moved to Hong Kong in 1996. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London in 1993. He has an MA in Economics from Selwyn College, Cambridge University.
